Connect reviews.ai to Claude or ChatGPT

Written by Jim

Connect your reviews.ai account to your AI assistant Claude, ChatGPT, or any MCP-compatible client and ask questions about your review data in plain English — complaints, sentiment, rating trends, comparisons across sources with answers built from your actual monitored data.

Example: "What needs my attention in reviews.ai this month?"

What you'll need

  • A Claude or ChatGPT account on a plan that supports connectors (for Claude: Pro, Max, Team, or Enterprise)

  • Your reviews.ai API token — log in to reviews.ai and click API in the menu (app.reviews.ai/api/index), or ask your account manager

Installation

Connect from Claude

If reviews.ai appears in Claude's connector directory:

  1. In claude.ai, open Settings → Connectors

  2. Find reviews.ai in the directory and click Connect

  3. A reviews.ai window opens — paste your API token, optionally name the connection, and click Allow

  4. You'll see a confirmation screen with usage tips — click Continue to Claude

If reviews.ai is not yet listed (manual setup):

  1. In claude.ai, open Settings → Connectors

  2. Click Add custom connector

  3. Enter:

    • Name: reviews.ai

    • URL: https://app.reviews.ai/api/mcp

  4. Click Add, then Connect

  5. A reviews.ai window opens — paste your API token and click Allow

  6. On the confirmation screen, click Continue to Claude

Your data connection is now active. In any conversation, make sure the reviews.ai connector is enabled (check the tools menu in the chat input area).

Connect from ChatGPT

  1. In ChatGPT, open Plugins

  2. Click Add → Add custom MCP server

  3. Enter the server URL: https://app.reviews.ai/api/mcp (name it Reviews.ai)

  4. A reviews.ai window opens — paste your API token and click Allow

  5. On the confirmation screen, click Continue

How to use it

Mention "reviews.ai" in your question. This tells your assistant to use your monitored data instead of searching the web.

Ask about anything reviews.ai tracks — what you monitor, reviews, ratings, complaints, sentiment, and topics.

Narrow it down naturally — by dates ("June 1–15", "last week"), star rating ("1–2 star"), category or location, and source.

Ask for comparisons and trends — between time periods, between the products or locations you monitor, or across sources.

Ask for formats — "top 10 negative topics as a table", "chart weekly review volume and average rating".

Example questions

  • "What am I monitoring in reviews.ai?"

  • "What needs my attention in reviews.ai this month?"

  • "Using reviews.ai, show me last week's 1–2 star reviews"

  • "What are the top complaint topics in reviews.ai for June, as a table?"

  • "Compare my reviews.ai ratings across sources this quarter"

  • "Any rating drops in reviews.ai recently?"

Ask for finished work

  • For engineers: "Build a bug-fix priority list from the last 90 days of 1–2 star reviews: cluster the issues, rank them by review count, and quote two customers per issue."

  • For product: "What are customers asking us to build? Rank feature requests from last quarter by how often they come up."

  • For marketing: "What do customers praise most? Top 5 strengths, each with a quotable review."

  • For leadership: "Run a SWOT on our reviews for this quarter."

Privacy & security

  • Your API token is entered on reviews.ai's own page, stored encrypted on reviews.ai servers, and is never shared with Claude, ChatGPT, or their providers

  • Your assistant receives only short-lived, revocable access credentials

  • Access is strictly read-only — your assistant cannot modify or delete any of your data

  • Every request is logged and visible to reviews.ai support for your account

For the full technical and security overview (architecture, OAuth details, data handling), see MCP Connector — Technical & Security.

Managing or revoking access

You can disconnect at any time — access is cut off immediately:

  • From claude.ai: Settings → Connectors → reviews.ai → Disconnect

  • From ChatGPT: Plugins → select Reviews.ai → Manage → Uninstall

  • From reviews.ai: contact support or use your connection management page

Rotating your reviews.ai API token also invalidates connections made with the old token.

Usage limits

To keep the service fast for everyone, connections are limited to 30 requests per minute and 300 per hour, and Claude can retrieve up to 2,000 reviews per question. For larger raw-data exports, use Reports → Charts & Graphs → Download .csv in your reviews.ai dashboard.

Troubleshooting

"Couldn't connect" during setup — double-check the URL is exactly https://app.reviews.ai/api/mcp, then delete the connector entry and add it fresh (don't retry a failed entry).

"That token was rejected" — verify your API token works by visiting https://app.reviews.ai/api/products.php?token=YOUR_TOKEN in a browser; it should list what you monitor. If not, request a new token from your account manager.

The assistant answers from the web instead of your data — include "reviews.ai" explicitly in your question ("in my reviews.ai data, ..."), and confirm the connector is toggled on for that conversation.

The assistant says it has no reviews.ai tools — the connector isn't enabled in that chat. Check the tools menu in the chat input, or start a new conversation.

Empty results for topic questions — add a time range: "top topics for the last 30 days". Topic queries default to a very narrow window without one.
